When to make a fresh start?

How many people can say they get to write their first blog post while sitting under hut #13 on Eagle beach in Aruba listening to Christina Perri belting out I Believe? As I sit here, sipping on a delicious tropical cocktail with twenty five other yogi’s and my yoga mentor I can’t help but consider this yoga
retreat a Fresh Start for me. For what - well for anything and everything, because why not?

A fresh start can be a resolution at the beginning of the new year, the first day of any month (am I the only one who obsessively says Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit on the first of every month?) or even the start of a new day.
At the end of each yoga practice, I’ve always loved the opportunity to start anew ironically during the pose directly after Savasana, Side Fetal Pose often called the pose of new beginnings or in Sanskrit, Parsva Savasana. PHOTO

Savasana implies a depth of release that goes beyond simple relaxation, so
why can’t the pose of new beginnings go beyond our yoga mat and into our lives?

Most would agree that a fresh start is needed after a traumatic event or significant loss, but why wait for a tragedy to shake things up? This idea got me to thinking, “How many of us wait for permission to
start again from the same old thing?” If you’re one that always seeks approval, I challenge you to ask yourself from whom are you waiting for that little affirmation, it’s ok. And, if your already adulting, look around, you’re the only one that needs to be ok with a giving yourself a new perspective.

No matter what you are going through, if you take tiny bites out of your routine, introduce yourself to change and remember Christina’s lyrics “This is not the end of me, this is the beginning” you’ll end up in a new place and wouldn’t that be grand?
